Overview
This process document will cover how to handle the packing process using the handhelds and the wireless warehouse functionality.
Assumptions
To begin this process, it is assumed that your warehouse has been configured for wireless connectivity, and you have the application installed on our recommended devices. In addition, you have your warehouse locations built, and labeled. Lastly, Wireless Warehouse settings are turned on, and access and security has been configured for any users using the handhelds.
Within the Handheld App -
Will need to change the default display size from default to small to ensure the menus and details properly fit within the screen.
Creating Package Types
Before you begin using the hand-held you need to ensure that you have created and configured your package types within the desktop application.
-
Go to Warehouse > Inventory > Warehouse Manager. Under the Shipping section you will choose Packages.
-
Using the Manage Package, you can add, edit, delete and set a package default.
-
When you are adding a package you will create a Package Name, Description, and then can choose if that is a default package type and then save your entry.
-
It will then appear on the list of package type above.
-
If you need to edit an or delete a package type, just highlight the line and right-click
-
Then when you are using the handheld and select Show/Edit Packages you can now view your package type listed in the dropdown for selection.
-
Also in the next section will go over how to select ‘Quick Package buttons’ to choose from in handheld to be used.
Admin Settings to Consider
Within the desktop application there are a couple of handheld settings you may want to consider/configure before using the handheld.
-
Go to Admin> Administrator> Warehouses> HH Settings
-
The following settings can and do relate to the Packing Process:
-
Related to Packing Process:
-
Do not allow more than “x” items per shipper for One and Done - when configured this will allow users for the quick “one and done” pack to configure how many items that can be considered during this process. Also once the packing is completed you can also choose what the shipper will be automatically posted to, ie. Staged, or Loaded.
-
Quick Package Button - when configured you can select which “quick” package buttons you want displayed in the handheld for ease of use, and that are commonly used so the user doesn’t have to select from a drop down menu for the package type each time. The selection here is based on the Package types you created in the previous section.
-
-
Additional Settings to consider:
-
HH Recall Last Template/Printer Selection - When printing an inventory or location labels, if this setting has been selected, your default printer and label templates will automatically be preselected for you.
-
Using Holding Bins - When selected as part of the receiving, shipping and our counting process the handheld workflow will consider that you are using system bins to place items in or out during these processes which will require you to enter or scan these bins before proceeding.

Options when Packing Orders
Now that you have created your Staging bins, In-transit locations, and Delivery routes with the Savance Application you can now use the handhelds to perform your picking, packing and shipping process.
-
Once logged into the hand-held you will go to Inventory> Shipping. Depending on where you are starting the process you have the following options: Picking or Packing and Delivery.
Packing vs. Quick Pack vs. One and Done
When you begin the packing process you have three options once you’ve selected ‘Packing’ from the Shipping Menu. Below describes what the differences are.
Packing
When you select ‘Packing’ the process of selecting orders, either by manually selecting an order or selecting from the packing queue, the main goal is for the user the ability to go through each step of the packing process and once the order has been completely packed, you will be choosing to stage to a location, or have ready for another user to load and deliver the order.
Quick Pack
Selecting ‘Quick Pack’, is the same as ‘Packing’, however it will complete the loading process and mark the order/items as shipped. There will be a QP indicator in the upper-left corner that indicates you are in the Quick
Pack process.
One and Done
Select ‘One and Done’ if you have a single item within an order and quickly want to pack, print your labels, and get staged for delivery. There will be a P&D indicator in the upper-left corner that indicates you are in the One & Done process.
This process will print your labels, packing list and place it in the staging location, and mark it as loaded for delivery.
